i feel really lucky to have been given the chance to review this album simply for the opportunity to come into contact with such an amazing artist. misound has an extremely original sound world that i think you will enjoy. make sure to pick up a copy from ryo nakata’s slowflow label. here is what misound had to say about his own work:
This album is based on a collection of recordings i made in between London and Tokyo 2005 to 2008. I was collecting a series of field recordings that constitute the base of most of the pieces ive created for “Stanze di Te”, mostly are just nature ambience coming from one of my trips which I have digitaly processed on my computer. I wanted to give a feeling of lo-fi sound so I didnt bodered too much on a precis edit, I wanted them as raw as possible. On the other hand I have gathered some beatiful and gentle pads created using a granular synth/sampler player and also some piano(myself), violin and voice(from the beatiful hands of my friend Mel, a very talented player that forgot about her instrument long time ago…) and washed the pieces with some warm acoustic elements. I have performed all the songs live so that I couldnt alter the feeling I had when I was playing them, this also means that the piece are all unique and cannot be played again in the same exact way that where created which for me adds even more to the album. I would love to have the possibility to perform this album live with all the acoustic instruments on stage and a huge screen where Id like to project a visual experience ive been working on for a while.
The percussive elements I have introduced like the once in “stanze di te” are part of my favourite little synth sequencer patches ive created with Max-msp and then recorded, looped and played back in real time while recording the piece. The tool i have used for recording is a very easy straight fwd sample player which records in realtime and able you to mix the different sounds you are playing trough it.
The feelings of this album are a mixture of melancholic and sad feelings mostly referred to a momentary lost of love and what I have been hunting for my all life and that I have reached very closely but never manage to fully achieve. In this endless search for love there is always a bright place where you feel fulfilled and safe and there is also the other side of it where you feel there is no way back and you feel lost. thats what i wanted the listener to feel, hunter and hunted at the same time by the sounds.
