sleep concert continues

i am starting a new blog campaign based on the continuation of my sleep concert remix concept. as announced in my post sommeil photo documentation the sleep concert will be taking on a life beyond its initial performance. The first big festival that we, chika, jeremy bible (owner of experimedia), jason henry and myself, will be attending is the ingenuity festival in cleveland, ohio. we are really excited about the event and are even more excited about the process of recreating all of the submitted material over again into a new free culture experiment. we plan on following robert rich’s guidelines for sleep concert once again, the only difference is that jeremy bible and jason henry will be assisting in the live remix of the sleep material. if you would like to learn more about robert rich’s original sleep concert concept you can listen to his audio interview here. the release that will ensue is likely to include material both from the initial performance and from the subsequent performance in july at the ingenuity festival.

i would like to offer all those who contributed music to this project a new opportunity to broadcast their work through my site. recently i discovered this wonderful new web service called bandcamp. bandcamp is an online publishing platform that allows artists to sell or give their work away freely through their service. it also allows you to embed bandcamp code into web posts. here is my offer, any one who contributed sleep music is invited to create a bandcamp account and send me the embed code for the work or works that they submitted to the sommeil project. in addition to the embed code contributors must send a copy of their bio and any html code (i.e. a hyperlink to your site or to labels that publish your music) that they would like to have submitted to a page dedicated to their submission. i will call these pages ’sommeil artists profiles’. you are allowed to give your files away or sell them. if you choose to sell them, all of the money will go to you through bandcamp. all i am doing is embedding your bandcamp code into my site. the trade is that your music will draw hits to my site, and thus all people who contributed and myself will gain exposure from this campaign. all files must be licensed with a creative commons 3.0 license. you can find the information for this license here. if you are an artist who submitted material to sommeil you may also send me the embed code for any other pieces that you would like to distribute through my site. the only stipulation is that you must be willing to release the music under the CC 3.0 license. please grant me time to complete all these pages. please note, this does not mean that i am publishing any of the works, i am simply allowing you to self release your contribution through my site using bandcamp embed code. please watch the video on the bandcamp homepage for more information about how to create an account and how to create embed code. submit this to me in email at barely.audible@gmail.com. please address your email subject as follows: your name, sommeil artists profile, name of your work or works, creative commons 3.0.

all of the artists who contributed added so much to the experience of sommeil. each sonic offering had its own unique vibe and each inspired me creatively in some way. so many contributions were sent that i heard some of them for the first time during the concert. i would like to get to know all these pieces better through the process of creating these artists profiles.

i hope that every single person who contributed music feels inclined to take me up on this offer. i am honored to be associated artistically with each and every contributor. some of the sounds that were sent have inspired me to take on new projects and go in new directions as a sound artist. i am also inspired to continue finding new and innovative ways to distribute music across the www using artistic projects that combine creativity, marketing and thinking outside the box about how music could and should be broadcast via the web. if you have any ideas about new projects or new ways to do this PLEASE hit me up.

to see a complete list of contributors please click here.

if you have any questions about this campaign or need clarification about what i am requesting then please contact me using one of the sources listed on my bio page.

if you would like to collaborate with me on other projects please read this page.

if you would like to become a site sponsor and take advantage of the traffic that sommeil and my other interviews and reviews have brought to this site then take a look at this page.

if you have been inspired by the sleep concert and want to help me continue this kind of work by donating then please click here. all funds donated will go to financing new creative endeavors and large contributions will result in hyperlinks on my sidebar.

if you love the idea then help me broadcast it by spreading this post as far and wide as possible across the world wide web.
