After the sleep concert had ended I asked participants to write down their experiences about the concert and I let them know that I would be publishing my responses on my blog. Here is what the four people who took me up on the offer had to say. If anyone else who attended the event wants to send in a written response I will update this post and publish it here. Thanks again to all involved in making this such a successful event ![]()
here is what robert rich had to say about what people should expect during a sleep concert
Robert Rich – response 2 Tanner Menard Interview

A sonic brain massage in a continuous dream state – anonymous
Once temperature was adjusted I began to drift in and out of sleep. From what I remember the, “conscious look at the subconscious” from the speaker in the beginning struck the most with me. I think this event will effect me more in the future. as of now, the event inspired me to create more of my own music and to think in an analytical way which revealed simple patterns combined in complex variations. In all, the event was a great experience – anonymous
You are a teller of the coming gladness. Bless all those around with the messages of joy and illumination. Alleluia. Swiss mountain snow profile. Home made wood clippers. – anonymous
I don’t know why but this event has filled me with a different kind of hope than I’ve had in a long time. Before I came to do this I saw it listed in the lagniappe (weekend arts section of the Times Picayune) & told some of the women I work with about it including my mum. Their response to my description was along the side of disbelief at the idea of an event where people sleeping in a room full of others on the floor would be enjoyable. Ever since I was little I’ve suspected that often I don’t have my own dreams – Often but not always. Usually when I wake up a feeling of dispair crashes over me…I didn’t feel that way this morning. Part of my theory about dreams is that we dream collectively & depending upon the strength of the dreamer or dream one person gets to keep the dream. Sometimes there are glitches and both people remember. Last night someone else kept my dreams.I have historically had bouts of insomnia – this was a pretty pretty easy wasy to fall asleep. It made me think of Japan – I think – read about sleep pops.
So as for last night, it was like Queen Titania’s birth only no mean tricks or asses heads. It felt like sound wise there were cycles…Like a buzz of an insect would reach its peak and something else would be underneath that sound & there was an aural pleasure in hearing the space of the first sound clearly fall out. I was awake until a little after 12:35. I woke up when there were boat glugs.
The visual component of red, white, black and hidden violet O’s stretching and vibrating along the walls was like a cat’s craddle of planetary DNA, strange blood water bubbles. I loved the wall with the stripes – the texture of the wall looked like craters of another planet.
So when I woke mid-night, it was so beautiful to hear a new track of people’s cycling sleep sounds and there seemed to be layers of snore sounds or maybe i was listening in a different way.
The way that you woke us up was better than any alarm…You are an angel of sound & this experience is one of my favorite – just to wake up with a feeling of happiness instead of dread/fear/proverbial loathing is such a gift. If you ever need sleep subjects find me.
I have I-chinged Hexagram 1 twice (in regards to the sleep concert), so I knew I must open my mind to the uncertain NEW <3 Much Love <3 – Kate Jabouisse
