click here for the interview with nicholas szczepanik
Nicholas Szczepanik was raised on a farm with 3 brothers and 2 sisters until his parent’s divorce caused his family to divide. His interest in recording music began when his oldest sister, Darlyn, would share and listen to interesting music with him, triggering his fascination with music, and, eventually any sound.
Originally inspired by his father’s hearing loss and, subsequently, his mother’s determination, he now studies sound and its psychological effects. Nicholas currently resides in a suburb of Washington D.C. with his partner, attending college, working full-time, and spending any other time with his finger close to the REC button (as long as it doesn’t interfere with Sunday morning breakfast at his mother’s).
.
nicholas szczepanik is one of the youngest and brightest stars rising in the ambient and experimental night skies. his label SRA has featured such artists as josh lay, fabio orsi, acre, ophibre and machinefabriek. on march 10th he will be releasing new albums by violet and medroxy progesterone acetate. this spring nicholas will release his amazing new album the chiasmus on the french label basses frequences which i have had the good fortune to hear as it was being composed. i personally believe that nicholas szczepanik is one of the most creative new voices in the scene and he has become a great friend. he writes of his label:
The first thing I’d like to say is that Sentient Recognition Archive is ran solely by one person (me). I am a part-time student, full-time worker, and spend my free time and spare cash keeping SRA stable. Please take this into consideration when interacting with me about your work and contribution. Budget is also the reason that SRA is currently a CD-R label.
SRA was originally designed to be used as a way to explore my fascination with how humans are able to express themselves through sound by psychological influences. The label is also used to release and promote new, international recordings in the styles (not limited to) ambient, avant-garde, drone, electroacoustic, electronic, experimental, field recordings, found sound, noise, musique concrète, turntablism, etc…
please support nicholas and sra by purchasing music here.
